Nigeria: GSM Services Restored in Adamawa

Yola — Global System for Mobile (GSM) services which were
cut-off following the declaration of state of emergency by President Goodluck
Jonathan in May this year have been restored in Adamawa State.
The Director of Defence Information Brigadier General Chris
Olukolade said the defence headquarters has authorised the restoration of GSM
services in the state.
According to the defence spokesman the restoration of the
services is sequel to positive indications in the ongoing security evaluation
of the situation in the states affected by the state of emergency.
Jubilant residents of Yola, the state capital trooped to
recharge cards selling points to load their phones in order to make calls.
Investigation by Daily Trust revealed that most residents
welcomed the restoration which they believe will make life easier for them. A
resident, Maimurna Ishaku said though the network is presently poor, people are
happy that the network is restored.
In an interview with Daily Trust the Manager of a business
centre Abubakar Muhammad said internet business flourished in the absence of
phone services.
