Pastor Yohanna Buru, the General
Overseer of Christ Evangelical Intercessory Fellowship Ministry, Sabon Tasha,
Kaduna, has urged marketers not to increase the cost of goods as the Muslim
fasting month of Ramadan approaches.
He made the call on Sunday when he
led a team of Muslim and Christian clerics on a tour to some markets in Kaduna.
The team visited the Central Market
of Kaduna, Kasuwar Barchi, Railway Market, Barnawa Market, Sabon Tasha Market
and some other local weekly Saturday markets at Unguwar Dosa in Kaduna North.
Buru said “marketers should reason
with the common man and reduce the cost of their goods, especially food items,
to enable people to buy them at affordable rates.
“As the Holy Month of Ramadan
approaches, marketers and traders should feel the pains of the common man by
cutting down costs of food items so that they will receive Allah’s blessings in
their businesses.”
The general overseer said religious
preachers were worried about increased cost of food items whenever Ramadan was
approaching, hence the need for them to visit markets and talk to sellers of
such items.
The cleric then urged both state and
Federal Government, trade and market unions and regulatory bodies to quickly
intervene to check the increasing cost of items in markets “because it is
making life extremely hard for Nigerians.”
He also called for re-introduction
of price-control boards to check the excesses of marketers.
On his part, Malam Abdulrahman
Bicci, one of the Muslim clerics on the tour, also appealed to marketers to
think of meeting God and the consequences of trippling prices of food
Commodities in the market.
He added that “Allah is watching you
in whatever you do.
“Always have the fear of Allah in
whatever you do.”
